Memorial Day at Green’s Prairie Cemetery
Please join us at 1:30 pm on Monday, May 27, 2019 as the Green’s Prairie Cemetery Association hosts its annual Memorial Day celebration. Bring your own chairs and sun hats. In case of rain the ceremony will be held in the York Town Hall in Postville.
We will be honoring the veterans of three wars who are buried in the cemetery area. In addition, learn about the family cemetery of John S. Stewart. John and three family members are buried there. John was the first settler in York Township, arriving in Wisconsin in 1837 and moving to York Township in 1838. His grandson John W. Stewart, Jr, was instrumental in saving Green’s Prairie Cemetery in the 1920’s.
Green’s Prairie Cemetery is located on Postville Road about 3/4 of a mile north of the village of Postville between highways “H” and “A”, west of County highway ”J”. The York Town Hall is in the village.
