NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at an election to be held in the Town of York on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, the following question will be submitted to a vote of the people:The question will appear on the official referendum ballot as follows:

We, the people of the Town of York, Green County, Wisconsin support passage of an amendment to the United States constitution stating:

  1. Only human beings – not corporations, unions, non-profits, or similar associations are endowed with constitutional rights, and
  2. Money is not speech, and therefore regulating political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech.

EXPLANATION

The United States Constitution currently does not prohibit large businesses from contributing toward political campaigns. The proposed constitutional amendment would prohibit corporations, unions, non-profits or similar Associations from contributing toward campaigns.

A “yes” vote on this referendum would mean that you agree the United States Constitution should be amended so only humans can contribute toward campaigns.
A “no” vote on this referendum would mean that you would like the United States Constitution to remain as is with no change.
