Town of York
Special Meeting of Town Electors
Tuesday, August 25, 2020

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm. The meeting was held as a video conference on Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Town Chairman Steve Van Hout chaired the meeting. In addition to Steve Van Hout, 12 town residents attended. Verification of proper notice was given.

The town residents in attendance discussed combining the clerk and treasurer positions. Heidi Hankley shared that this process of combining the positions is different from the referendum that will be on the ballot in November that will ask town residents if the town should move from an elected clerk, treasurer, or clerk-treasurer, to an appointed clerk, treasurer, or clerk-treasurer.

Steve Van Hout made a motion to combine the positions of town clerk and treasurer into a single position of clerk-treasurer; second by Steve Hermanson. A roll call vote was taken with 11 Ayes, 0 Nays, and 2 electors present not casting votes. Motion carried.

Heidi Hankley, current town clerk, offered her resignation, effective immediately to the board. Kristi Leonard made a motion to accept Heidi’s resignation; second by Steve Hermanson. Motion carried. The board thanked Heidi for her service and Heidi thanked the board for being awesome co-workers.

Current treasurer, Ann Carlson, was not present at the meeting, but will present her resignation letter to the town board for their consideration at their September 8th board meeting.

Steve Van Hout made a motion to appoint town resident, Jessica Schlumpf, to the position of town clerk to replace Heidi Hankley; second by Tim Czerwonka. Motion carried. Steve Van Hout swore Jessica in as town clerk. When the town board receives and accepts Ann Carlson’s resignation, Jessica will assume the newly-combined position of clerk-treasurer.

Adjournment- Steve Van Hout moved to adjourn the meeting; second by Steve Hermanson. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm.

Respectfully submitted, Heidi Hankley, Clerk
